FEBURARY 19, 2012 -  SoulShift

SoulShift is a clear and measurable way of defining the target for spiritual transformation. It differs from most discipleship programs in that it’s not a program—it’s a way of life. SoulShift clearly identifies what it means to be a disciple; and instead of focusing on doing more, it focuses on living more . . . like Christ.

SoulShift is for all of us who have tried hard to be different but feel we haven’t really changed. At whatever stage of spiritual life you may be, you can enter into this transformation. As you read, our hope is that this book gives you an alternative to plug-and-play, performance-driven spirituality. Our dream is that it will help you to connect the dots from what might seem like random acts of spiritual activity to experiencing authentic spiritual progress. By engaging with SoulShift, you will discover seven shifts that will change your life and empower you to keep changing.

STEVE DeNEFF is senior pastor of College Wesleyan Church in Marion, Indiana. He is an author and a highly sought conference speaker on spiritual transformation and church leadership.

DAVID DRURY is the author of The Fruitful Life and coauthor of Ageless Faith. He has planted churches in Illinois and Indiana and currently serves as executive pastor at College Wesleyan Church.

Women’s Ministry

Women’s bible study begins Thursday, March 1st.  Join us for this 6 week bible study dealing with the lies we, as women, tell ourselves.  Meets every Thursday from 6-730pm.  Cost of workbook is $12.  Please see Myra Taylor or Heather St.Clair to reserve your spot.

Monday Morning Prayer & Lunch

Are you retired? Do you work second shift? Are you a stay at home person? Do you have Mondays off?  If you answered yes to any of these questions then join us at the church for a brief devotional, a time of prayer and then we will head out to have lunch together.  We will meet the 1st & 3rd Mondays of each month. Join us February 20th at 11:00 AM!

SONS OF DAVID MEN’S MINISTRY

Every Tuesday we invite all men to join us weekly at the church at 6:00 AM for devotions and prayer.  This is a great way to start the day off by connecting with each other and growing in Christ.

Lent

Lent originated in the fourth century of the church. The season spans 40 weekdays beginning on Ash Wednesday and concluding the Saturday before Easter. Lent is marked by a time of prayer and fasting in preparation for the celebration of Easter. Since Sundays celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, the six Sundays that occur during Lent are not counted as part of the 40 days of Lent.  During this time people are urged to give up or fast from something as a way of remembering what Christ sacrificed for us.  Lent begins this Wednesday.

Love Worth Fighting For – Roanoke

It takes place Friday, March 16, 2012 at First Baptist Church.  If we have a group of 20 or more you can go for only $20.00 per person. See Pastor Myron today if you want to go!

The Bible repeatedly uses “father,” “husband,” “bride” and “child” analogies to demonstrate God’s relationship with the church and his followers. There is no better example of the unconditional love God has for us than what we are instructed to have for our spouse and children. Building upon these themes, Love Worth Fighting For is a marriage event, featuring teaching by Kirk Cameron and music by Warren Barfield, designed to strengthen and encourage your marriage.

INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WIND ENSEMBLE

We are in for a treat with a rare privilege!  PFWC and Vinton Wesleyan Church will be sponsoring the 60 member Wind Ensemble from IWU.   PFWC is responsible for finding housing and feeding them breakfast.   If you are willing to open your home and HOST some of these students for one night, or you would be willing to cover the cost of a hotel room for $60.00, PLEASE SEE PASTOR MYRON ASAP!

Agua Limpia Project

This past summer PFWC sent a medical mission team to El Salvador.  While there, they visited a refuge displacement settlement in Cojutepeque, El Salvador. What the team found was over 3000 people who didn’t have access to clean drinking water and a host of other needs.  The people in this community were hungry for a church. A woman donated a small lot and we were privileged to purchase an adjacent lot with a small building so that a church could be established.  We then followed up with donating funds to help restore an outhouse and make other improvements on the property.  Now we would like to begin raising the funds needed to put a well in this community.  Currently we have raised over $1000.00 and our goal is $5000.00.* If you would like to  help with this project that will make such a life changing difference in these peoples’ lives. please make a check out to PFWC.

* Should a well be established by the time we raise the funds, or clean safe water has been established in some other way, the funds will be given to The Wesleyan Church El Salvador to use where it will best make a difference physically and spiritually.

NEW YEAR’S CHALLENGE

It is the New Year and most people make some sort of resolution – read the Bible more, exercise, lose weight, stop smoking, stop drinking sodas, etc, etc.  Most of the time, however, this lasts a couple of weeks to a couple of months and fizzles out.  In an effort to keep the momentum going and make a difference at the same time, we have a challenge for you!

Whatever the New Year’s resolution, donate $$ towards the El Salvador Clean Water Well as you meet specific goals.  For example: $1 for every pound lost; $1 for every soda given up; $XX (cost per pack) for every pack of cigarettes not smoked; etc.  For anyone not able or interested in donating the monies, volunteer your time at the church – i.e. 15 minutes of volunteer time for every pound lost, etc.

We will track the volunteer hours and $$ collected for the project on thermometers on the wall through June and celebrate the personal and community victories periodically.  If the idea works, we individually meet goals we will likely abandon otherwise AND we raise money and give some time for a good cause.  You can drop in and out of the program as necessary, but the idea is to keep the momentum going as we encourage each other.
